Position description 

Hyperion Technology Group, Inc. is looking for an Entry Level Software & Embedded System Engineer to join our team. HTG is a multi-disciplined research and development firm serving both the Government and commercial sectors.


Candidates for the position of Software & Embedded Systems Engineer shall participate in the team-oriented design, development, and testing of a wide range of electrical and electronics equipment and integrated systems for both industrial and military application. Qualified candidates shall ideally have a B.S/M.S in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) -accredited institution. In some circumstances, individuals with degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics may be considered based on past work or research experience. Candidates are expected to have broad interests within the field of software and embedded systems, as well as the aptitude and attitude to develop new skills as needed to support the firm’s growth.  Individuals should also be highly individually motivated, and attuned to tacking complicated problems where research, persistence, and teamwork are often required.


Duties/Responsibilities:

• Microprocessor and microcontroller firmware design and development. This may include stand-alone microprocessor, FPGAs, DSPs and/or embedded-Linux system development using a variety of customized PC-based software tool.

• PC-software development. C/C++, C#, Qt, Visual Studio are often utilized.

• Development of firmware for wireless devices using Bluetooth, Zigbee, WiFi, and other standards as they emerge.

• Testing and troubleshooting of electronics hardware. This requires an understanding of basic electronics, and ability to interface with hardware designers and technicians. 

• Interaction with other engineering disciplines, and work in small teams. Work on multiple projects simultaneously (at various stages of development) is commonly required.

• PC-based software application development. C/C++, C#, Qt, Visual Studio are often utilized.

• Participate in a team oriented design environment to develop intelligent sensor systems.

• Technical writing (reports, presentations, project reviews)

• Interaction with other engineering disciplines and work in small teams. Work on multiple projects simultaneously (at various stages of development) is commonly required.

• Leadership of small workgroups

• Customer interaction (meetings, conferences, and similar)

• Participation in business development (proposal writing, forecasting, exploring new ideas and growth opportunities, etc.)

• Follow established procedures and will contribute to the successful completion of software related milestones associated with specific projects including C/C++ software development, design, code, unit test and formal testing. 

• Interacts with senior software and hardware personnel on a situational basis and has knowledge of emerging software and hardware technologies. 

• All other duties as assigned


Desired Skills:

• Experience with UNIX/Linux environment

• Software Version Control (git)

• Ability to debug issues at hardware and software levels using tools like debuggers, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.

• Understanding of microcontrollers, microprocessors, and their architectures. Familiarity with peripherals like timers, UART, SPI, I2C, and ADC/DAC.

• Basic understanding of electronic components, schematics, and datasheets. Ability to collaborate effectively with hardware engineers.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced and highly varied 

environment


Physical Requirements: 

• Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors. 

• Candidate must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. 

• Duties will also require extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling and lifting light to moderately heavy objects.

• Must Interface with Customers at a Technical Level

• Willingness to learn and personally invest in acquisition of new skillsets


This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance.  Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.  The Vetting Risk Operations Center (VROC), handles and adjudicates the security clearance process.  Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations, and drug involvement.  Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens.
