FireFLY AO

FireFly AO (Acoustic Only) is a robust military-grade sensor, designed for enhanced battlefield awareness, flexibility, and maximum performance. This sensor is designed to detect and geolocate gunshots, Rocket/Artillery/Mortar (RAM), and Unmanned Aerial Surveillance vehicles (UAS). A significant advantage of FireFly AO is its ability to generate a Z-axis azimuth, allowing users to not only know the precise location of an event, but also the event’s elevation. This feature offers a more complete, three-dimensional understanding of the threat’s origin.

Application Information:
Border Protection – FireFLY is actively monitoring gunfire at the southern border to protect agents on the ground and allow Homeland Security to better understand and pattern cartel activity that could be a threat to the U.S. Additionally, FireFLY has been utilized on the northern border to detect and track low-flying aircraft transporting and dropping illegal contraband into the U.S.

Base Perimeter - FireFLY sensors have been deployed as a perimeter security tool on numerous occasions to provide enhanced situational awareness at forward operating bases, military stations, and airfields. The system provides early detection of external threats, enhancing the protection of stationed units and allowing personnel to quickly geolocate hostile gunfire and direct efforts accordingly.

Protection of Critical Infrastructure – In recent years, the Department of Energy has become more concerned about the increasing incidence of organized, overt terrorism along with the increasing quantities of plutonium and highly enriched uranium that can be found inside nuclear power plants. This concern has emphasized the need for improved physical protection of Specialized Nuclear Material (SNM) against not only well-organized, armed terrorist attacks but also diversion through employee collusion. FireFLYs ability to provide early detection and geolocation of potentially malicious gunfire activity in the vicinity of such assets can contribute to the protection of nuclear power plants, substations, and other critical infrastructure.
